Janice Germaine from Aldergrove dropped off the very first Christmas tree at the First Walnut Grove Scout Group鈥檚 tree chipping fundraiser at Walnut Grove Secondary School on Saturday morning, Dec.30.
鈥淚 was so happy that the scouts had set up today,鈥 Germaine told the 91原创 Advance Times.
鈥淢ost of the tree chipping is next week and we are heading out of town, so this was perfect. I really appreciate the opportunity to have a live tree, but not have it go to waste.鈥
One of the first post-Christmas fundraisers in the 91原创 area, the event was a by-donation opportunity for residents to dispose of their trees by dropping them off and help support the scout troop in the process.
First Walnut Grove fundraiser coordinator Kathy Sulymka estimated a 鈥渢ruckload鈥 of trees was dropped off Saturday, and about $2,000 in donation was raised.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been doing tree chipping for over 20 years,鈥 Sulymka said. 鈥淭his is to raise money to run our program with the kids and have different adventures that they like to go on.鈥
