Volunteers are essential to the 91原创 Heritage Society鈥檚 efforts to preserve and share the community鈥檚 rich history.
And as a Volunteer Fair being held at the Heritage CNR Station in Fort 91原创 this weekend will show, the benefits to volunteers themselves are huge.
The Volunteer Fair is about driving the point home, recruiting new volunteers, and showing off some of that rich history.
The fair on Saturday, April 27, from noon to 3 p.m. will offer a behind-the-scenes peak at the historic CNR Station.
It鈥檚 for the whole family, and will include tours of the 1915 CNR railway station, the CNR Station鈥檚 heritage garden, the 1947 passenger car with telegraph station, and the 1920s era Canadian National Railways caboose with HO scale model railroad set in the 1950s
The 91原创 Heritage Society is recruiting new volunteers to help greet visitors from around the world, and to share the history of station agents during the era when 鈥渞ail was king.鈥�
Students can learn skills that will be impressive additions to any r茅sum茅, while meeting and greeting visitors from around the world.
Furthermore, the volunteer 鈥渨ork鈥� is interesting and fun, sharing the history of a fascinating period when railway stations and station agents formed an important connection between communities up and down the Fraser Valley and across the country.
Experience isn鈥檛 needed. The LHS and Station manager Helen Williams provide any necessary training.
