91原创 School District trustee Alison McVeigh is hoping someone committed to education will assume her seat in the next election.

She announced at Tuesday鈥檚 school board meeting that she would not be running in the October local elections. It was not an easy decision.

鈥淭he wrestle between my head and my heart has been going on for some time,鈥 she said.

She added that she鈥檚 been honoured to be a trustee and valued the trust placed in her by voters.

鈥淢y head is telling it鈥檚 time, time to let others sit in this chair, time to let others who are equally dedicated to education have this voice,鈥 McVeigh said.

Other trustees lauded her many years of public service. McVeigh has lived in the community for more than 30 years and been on school board for since the late 1990s.

She urged anyone considering running for office to remember that trustees work on behalf of all students and the entire school district.

鈥淭his work is not about single agenda items,鈥 she noted, adding 鈥淭here is no room at this table for anyone only interested in getting what they want.鈥

鈥淭his work is about the big picture,鈥 McVeigh stressed.
