VIDEO: Thousands of chickens killed in 91原创 barn fire

Biggest barn fire in memory, assistant fire chief believes

What is considered to be the largest barn fire in recent memory destroyed three chicken barns in 91原创's Otter neighbourhood early Sunday morning, killing thousands of birds.

91原创 Township assistant fire chief Kevin Snowdon said the fire was reported about 2 a.m. in the 500 block of 256 Street.

"A very large chicken barn went up," Snowdon said.

"It's probably one of the biggest we've ever had in terms of a barn fire."

Snowdon said the involved structures were about 1,200 feet long by 80 feet wide.

"It's got to be right up there with the biggest we've ever had in terms of the length," Snowdon commented. "And honestly, it's quite a wide barn as well."

The owner has advised fire fighters that there were three barns, with 9,000 birds in each barn. No chickens survived.

Ten fire vehicles responded, with many shuttling water to the site.

There were no reported injuries.

Crews were still at the scene Sunday afternoon.

Snowdon said a fire investigator would be looking into the cause of the blaze.

"The fire was so well involved prior to us getting here, it's going to be really difficult to determine a cause for this one," Snowdon told the 91原创 Advance Times.
