91原创鈥檚 school board has a new vice chair, with Trustee Marnie Wilson chosen by acclamation, replacing Trustee Holly Dickinson following the Jan. 30. board meeting.
Dickinson had served in the role since November of 2022, just after the last election.
Unlike on municipal councils, where a mayor and councillors are elected separately, on school boards, all the members are elected as simply trustees. They then vote among themselves to choose a board chair and a vice chair.
Near the end of the meeting, Trustee Sarb Rai called for an election for the position of vice chair. The vote was 5-2 in favour of holding a vote, with Dickinson and chair Candy Ashdown opposed.
After a call for nominations, only Wilson was nominated, leading to her taking on the vice chair role without any further voting.
Several trustees thanked Dickinson for her work in the role, including Wilson, in their comments at the end of the meeting.
Dickinson also thanked her fellow trustees for the opportunity to serve in the role.
Dickinson recently announced she was departing the Contract With 91原创 (CWL) slate, which ran candidates for mayor, council, and school board in the Township in 2022. At the council, CWL鈥檚 Eric Woodward and five council candidates won their positions, and on the school board, Dickinson and two other trustees were elected.
CWL did not run candidates in 91原创 City, which elects two of the seven trustees for the school board.
