Editor: I am a resident of Walnut Grove, living near 204 Street and 94B Avenue. I also have a business at Telegraph Trail and 192 Street.
The odour referred to in the (The Times, Dec. 11) is most definitely the sewage plant. Our factory was evacuated due to a possible gas smell, and when Fortis arrived they said it was the sewage plant 鈥渂urping鈥 occasionally. Coincidentally, my business deals with ozone generators which are used for wastewater treatment and smells, but that鈥檚 besides the point.
I have one major concern about this smell, other than the fact it is terribly foul and annoying. My wife several times was worried there was a gas leak in the house, and worried about our newborn son. I assured her, don鈥檛 worry it is just the stupid sewage plant.
A few days later the smell cleared up, yet in the house there was still a smell. It turned out we did indeed have a gas leak in the house. so the question now in my mind is, what happens when people ignore all those signs we have been trained to spot about gas leaks, because now we falsely assume it is the sewage plant.
I believe this is a life-threatening safety issue. My house didn鈥檛 explode or anything, but I can imagine it isn鈥檛 good for us to be breathing gas for several days, let alone a newborn baby.
I don鈥檛 know who to write to about this. I would like to highlight this safety concern and bring it to the public鈥檚 attention.
