LETTER: Fix Glover Road, don鈥檛 rush 216th

Editor: Thank you for stating that our proposal may have some merit in your July 28 editorial 鈥淔reeway access points may not be interchangeable.鈥

What does not receive the attention it should is the truly arterial nature of Glover Road: The south end of 216th Street from Highway 1 ends up on Glover Road; and both the north and south ends of the 232 street interchange end up on Glover Road.

Glover Road from 64th Avenue to 88th Avenue needs to be part of a comprehensive transportation infrastructure upgrade including expanding it to four lanes from 64th avenue north and replacing the obsolete overpass with an interchange that will accommodate a future widened highway one.

What an also perfect time to ensure that trucks are re-routed away from the narrow street in the commercial core of Fort 91原创.

Fort 91原创 is one of the few truly pedestrian commercial districts in the Fraser Valley and it would certainly benefit from eliminating truck traffic from the centre of town, while at the same time improving highway access for tourists and patrons.

As a member of GRIP (Glover Road Interchange Proponents) I hope that all three levels of government consider the best use of tax money in addressing our municipality鈥檚 needs.

Yes, Willoughby needs an interchange and the buffers have been appropriately planned for them. These buffers do not exist for the citizens north of the highway and it is doubtful that noise abatement measures can achieve the same harm reduction as the buffer zones south of the highway.

I ask our governments to fix Glover Road 鈥 don鈥檛 bypass problems with a rushed job of the interchange on 216th Street.
