Editor: Why should people be voting?
A few weeks ago, there was an election in 91原创 Township. However, it turns out that there were only about 30 per cent of voters who felt the need for a say in their community. Even though the rate of participation increased, when compared to the 2011 election, more than half of the people eligible to vote showed they do not care about the election.
Why don鈥檛 they vote? Do they think voting is a waste of time? Are they actually fine with the government?
As an immigrant who is still waiting to get a chance to vote, I feel sad about the result of the election. Since voting is an imperative step to affect directly the whole of society, people should take the opportunity to vote.
Imagine if there was no one wanting to vote. The Township will be controlled by government entirely, which means there will be no democracy in 91原创. Needless to say, 91原创 could become a dictatorship, if we don鈥檛 come out to vote.
Finally, in the belief that public policy is a cornerstone of our democracy, I consider everyone in 91原创 should pay attention to politics in a more energetic way. We should get out and vote, to ensure our future is always held in our hands.
