91原创 Red Sox take silver in Kamloops

Team overcame slow start

North 91原创's U20 Red Sox overcame a slow start to win silver at the 2025 Spring Knockout in Kamloops over the Mother's Day weekend, despite only fielding 10 players.

"We actually had nine of our players and we had to pick up a kid from Abbotsford, just to fill it out," head coach Karen Sitter told the 91原创 Advance Times.

"We only had one extra kid. We did not want any injuries, and we managed to do that."

Spring Knockout attracted teams from various age divisions from central to south B.C.

Red Sox, the only 91原创 team, had three games on Saturday, May 10, winning one and losing two.

That put them in fourth place, which got the team into the quarterfinals, where they played Maple Ridge and won a narrow 5-4 win.

In the semifinals, Red Sox played the West Kootenays, who were undefeated in first place, and beat them 20-10.

"The girls hit exceptionally well," Sitter commented.

For the final, they went up against Kamloops, to lose 7-5.

"They were just tired out from playing six games in two days," said Sitter.

"They did exceptionally well. They tried their hardest."

Sitter said she was "super proud of the kids and how well they played."

The team has been slow off the mark this season, Sitter commented, after having to import some players to fill out the roster.

"We have some new players from Coquitlam because we didn't have enough players to have a team," Sitter explained.

"So we have three from Coquitlam that are new to us this year."

Her assessment of their performance so far this season:  " Not overly great. We could be doing better. Considering how well we've been doing, [the silver medal] was a pleasant surprise."

A slow start isn't necessarily a bad thing, she observed.

"That's okay, because we'd rather finish strong at the end."
