The Trinity Western Spartans men's soccer team could not build on the momentum of a scoreless draw against the fourth-ranked Alberta Golden Bears, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Both games were played at TWU's Rogers Field.
The Spartans snapped a five-game losing streak with the 0-0 draw against Alberta on Friday and went ahead 1-0 the next day against the Huskies when Jarvis Ambaka opened the scoring in the 29th minute.
But the Huskies tallied twice in less than five minutes before halftime and tacked on an insurance goal in the 67th minute for the 3-1 win.
The results leave Trinity Western with a 1-6-1 mark.
With the win, the Huskies passed Alberta for top spot.
"In a close game, there are some critical plays that you have to capture and if you don't, the game gets away from you," said coach Pat Rohla.
"When a team is struggling, you are at times in two minds and you saw it all over the field: 'should I pass or should I shoot?'
"It is the indecisiveness that is killing us."
Since opening the season with a victory, the Spartans have suffered a major rash of injuries and have lost six of seven games.
"It is not a question of guys not wanting it, we really are out of sync," Rohla said.
"With injuries, every week we have fielded a new team."
Andrew Hicks made fives saves on the eight shots he faced against Saskatchewan while stopping all four for the clean sheet against Alberta.
The team is off this weekend and returns to action on Oct. 11 when they host the Mount Royal Cougars.
