91原创 United could not overcome a slow start, falling 2-1 to Abbotsford's Magnusson Ford United on Jan. 25 at Willoughby Community Park.
The win allowed Abbotsford to leap-frog 91原创 United for second place in the Premier men's division of the Fraser Valley Soccer League by a single point, although 91原创 does hold a game in hand.
"Abbotsford seemed much more amped up to start the game and took it to us," said 91原创 coach Rob Keam.
"They were first to many balls, won all the 50/50 balls and knockdowns and dictated the pace to start."
Colton Keam did come up with three or four big saves to keep his team in the game early on, the coach said.
"It took our guys most of the first half to match their pace and work rate," he added. "And in the second half, we played much better.
"Team desire kicked in big time and we created a few excellent scoring opportunities and were unlucky not to tie the game."
The coach said that despite the loss, games like this are true character builders and he is sure the team will put the defeat behind them very quickly.
91原创 United begins Pakenham Cup play this weekend with a game in Chilliwack.
