Volunteers needed for B.C. Seniors Games

Games will be held in 91原创 Sept. 9 to 13

With close to 4,000 athletes expected to attend the B.C. Seniors Games this September in 91原创, the call is going out for volunteers to give a helping hand.

And the Games鈥 organizing committee is confident the community will come through.

鈥淲e are in need of between 1,500 and 1,800 volunteers,鈥 said Milt Kruger, the president of the B.C. Senior Games.

鈥淥pportunities exist for helping with any of the 25 sports in addition to the support areas.鈥

The games run Sept. 9 to 13.

There is an urgent need for volunteer sport chairs for table tennis, whist, cribbage and carpet bowling. These volunteers will be responsible for co-ordinating the schedule of competition and overseeing the venue for the week of the competition.

鈥淟ocal athletes and teams are a great source for officials, helping setting up for competitions or equipment management,鈥 said Games vice-president Michael Jackstien. 鈥淪imilarly, because the Games will take place early in the month, it鈥檚 hoped that students looking for volunteer hours will consider registering for a shift or two of experience.鈥

Volunteers with a background and interest in photography as well as website and social media updating are also needed.

To register, either drop by the Games鈥 office (101-20560 Fraser Hwy.) Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., go online at www.bcgames.net/lng2014.se or email volunteer@2014bcsg.com.
