With close to 4,000 athletes expected to attend the B.C. Seniors Games this September in 91原创, the call is going out for volunteers to give a helping hand.
And the Games鈥� organizing committee is confident the community will come through.
鈥淲e are in need of between 1,500 and 1,800 volunteers,鈥� said Milt Kruger, the president of the B.C. Senior Games.
鈥淥pportunities exist for helping with any of the 25 sports in addition to the support areas.鈥�
The games run Sept. 9 to 13.
There is an urgent need for volunteer sport chairs for table tennis, whist, cribbage and carpet bowling. These volunteers will be responsible for co-ordinating the schedule of competition and overseeing the venue for the week of the competition.
鈥淟ocal athletes and teams are a great source for officials, helping setting up for competitions or equipment management,鈥� said Games vice-president Michael Jackstien. 鈥淪imilarly, because the Games will take place early in the month, it鈥檚 hoped that students looking for volunteer hours will consider registering for a shift or two of experience.鈥�
Volunteers with a background and interest in photography as well as website and social media updating are also needed.
