You may have seen my name appear in the Times for the past couple weeks.
If you鈥檙e a faithful reader, or a close observer, you鈥檝e probably noticed I鈥檓 not the first Miranda to fill the paper鈥檚 pages.
That distinction goes to Miranda Gathercole, who left the Times last month to pursue other opportunities.
I鈥檝e had numerous phone calls that have started with, 鈥楬i Miranda, you decided to come back!鈥� or 鈥楪ood morning Miranda, did you get married?鈥�
So, for everyone鈥檚 sake, let鈥檚 put the confusion aside.
I would like to formally introduce myself as Miranda Fatur 鈥� the latest addition to the 91原创 Times team.
And no, the job description did not list being named 鈥楳iranda鈥� as a requirement 鈥� it鈥檚 just a happy (and rather strange) coincidence.
As the 鈥榥ew鈥� Miranda, I鈥檓 very excited to join the 91原创 community and get to know everyone.
I grew up in the small town of Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, so I hold community news close to my heart. In a town of approximately 20,000 residents, I enjoyed growing up in a place where my friends and family were a quick drive away and I could walk to the local grocery store.
I also enjoyed a vibrant and interactive community that cared about what went on in their backyards.
Despite being larger in size, 91原创 has proven to be no different, as I鈥檝e already had the chance to speak with many passionate and caring citizens. I look forward to sharing more of your stories.
After studying for a couple years at the University of Victoria, I crossed the water to study at BCIT, where I graduated with a broadcast journalism diploma.
Before landing a job at the Times, I鈥檇 only been to 91原创 a handful of times.
Within the first week I was warmly welcomed by many people I met in person or spoke to on the phone 鈥� so thank you for sharing your community with me.
I look forward to the future opportunities I鈥檒l come across as a reporter, whether it鈥檚 covering breaking news or community events and achievements.
