Editor: As I stood awkwardly tiptoeing on the edge of the sidewalk to get a glimpse of the action unfolding in front of me, the beauty of the scene struck me.
Hundreds of 91原创 citizens stood silently, connecting with the memory of those who lost their lives in fighting for our freedom.
The Remembrance Day event at Douglas Park drew a large crowd, possibly 500 or more men, women and children from their comfy homes and routines.
It was beautiful to see people gathering together, not because they had a chance to win a trip or to make a business connection, but just to reflect on the cost of war and be grateful.
The weather was kind this year. There was no blustering wind to deal with, so the one hour memorial went by quickly.
I looked around me.
Who were these people?
Why was I there myself?
I came because my daughter, a former 746 Lightening Hawk cadet, taught me in previous years that we 鈥渁bsolutely must鈥� come out in support of those who fought for our freedom and those who are serving us today.
Canadians tend to be so understated in everything we do, unlike our American cousins. Yet, somehow, it made the turnout seem even more impressive. There was no cultural pressure for people to be there. For one hour, we all stood as one.
We were Canadians and we were grateful.
