Editor: I am disgusted that we still pay for the monarchy and their lavish lifestyle.
It鈥檚 time to kiss goodbye the nostalgia of days gone-by, as Australia and the US have done in the past 鈥� cut the ties.
It is an absolute disgrace that the Royals continue to live and thrive off the public purse (my and other hard working Canadians鈥� tax dollars).
What is the difference between that and welfare/public assistance?
Yet it is somehow acceptable for the Royal Family to do so. I don鈥檛 care if it鈥檚 pennies on the dollar per Canadian citizen 鈥� enough is enough.
The British monarchy should be dismissed from any and all connections to Canada, be it parliamentary, monetary, or as mute official representatives of the British monarchy.
They do nothing for the families of Canada except waste our tax dollars and our public resources, including the time of those in public office. Canada needs to quit being a doormat to the British, all in the name of tradition.
It鈥檚 time for a referendum to get rid of or keep Canada鈥檚 ties to the Commonwealth.
How ironic 鈥� we are the 鈥渃ommon鈥� and the Royals are the 鈥渨ealth.鈥�
Good riddance to that sort of privilege in this day and age.
Let鈥檚 get with the times and move on from the moochers.
