Editor: It was good news to hear that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau approved the twinning of Kinder Morgan鈥檚 Trans Mountain Pipeline, which will have a spin-off effect for 91原创.
I wish Enbridge鈥檚 Northern Gateway oil pipeline project got the go-ahead, too.
Immediately, when such announcements are made, you have your naysayers jumping on the band-wagon against these developments, without thinking about the economic benefits.
It鈥檚 good to speak up for the environment and protect it; but we need progress in this province and country, and we can鈥檛 do it without taking some risks.
When a project such as this is tabled, I wish the naysayers could stop for a moment and think, 鈥淗ow can we protect the environment and still build the economy?鈥�
Bright-minded thinking would move us ahead of the pack, instead of us always lagging behind.
Yes, taxpayers in 91原创 will have to spend money on the infrastructure to have to prepare for this project, but the spin-off is the jobs it will create and the added benefit of having an improved municipality. If not for this, we would never see improved roads, sewer and water, added bike lanes, drainage and better ditches. We would be where we are now, and stuck.
But with this project coming to our doorstep, I see opportunity for jobs close to home and improvements that we will all enjoy.
Change does not happen without some growth 鈥� which could mean a bit of pain and suffering, but you have to look forward and see the bigger picture.
This project is excellent, and they need to bring the forward-thinkers together to collaborate on a positive outcome. It gives us hope for our children who want to stay in their community, and secure a career that keeps them in our home province. We need this project for our community. It鈥檚 a win for 91原创.
