Editor: The following is an open letter to Cloverdale-91原创 City MP John Aldag:
Mr. Aldag: I note that recently you voted no on C-225. This is a grave disappointment to me and I am sure to your 91原创 constituents.
During the election campaign, when asked at an all candidates meeting where you stood on the abortion issue, you stated that your own mother was 鈥渁 card carrying member鈥� of a pro-life organization.
I believe she, more than anyone, would find it difficult to understand how you could not find it in your heart to vote yes on this private member鈥檚 bill 鈥� a vote which would simply have moved discussion of Bill C-225 to the committee stage.
C-225 was drafted to extend the Criminal Code protection to 鈥渨anted鈥� pre-born children in Canada. Your no vote leaves them vulnerable to all degrees of violence with no sanction in our justice system. Your no vote was a direct statement to pregnant women that their wanted pregnancies are of no concern to you.
It is worthy to note that each and every single Liberal MP present in the house followed your lead and defeated this Bill.
That certainly makes it appear that you 鈥渢oed the party line鈥� on this vote. If that is the case then 91原创 truly does not have an MP representing their wishes. Seventy per cent of Canadians favoured Molly鈥檚 Law and you said no. A sad day for Molly, for 91原创 and for your mother.
